Challenge

The project called for a large vanishing edge pool and spa overlooking the waterfront, positioned immediately adjacent to a substantial gazebo and elevated deck structure. Because of the site's geotechnical conditions, both the aquatic and adjacent structures required deep pile foundations. The challenge was coordinating the pool, gazebo, and structural systems so they performed independently while maintaining the appearance of a single, integrated architectural composition with clean, uninterrupted detailing.

Solution

The pool, spa, gazebo, and surrounding structural systems were engineered in close coordination to accommodate the deep pile foundation system while preserving the architect's design intent. Custom structural and waterproofing details were developed at the interfaces between the aquatic and adjacent structures to create clean architectural transitions without compromising the independent performance of each system. Continuous coordination with the structural and architectural teams ensured the completed design functioned as an integrated composition while meeting the demanding structural requirements of a waterfront Miami Beach property.
