Challenge
Designed for a luxury custom residence in Miami Beach, this project features a knife-edge and vanishing-edge pool and spa. Both vessels are located at a significantly elevated portion of the property, creating structural and hydraulic demands well beyond those of a typical residential pool.
The challenge was designing the foundation, structure, and hydraulic systems to accommodate the significant elevation difference between the aquatic vessels and the ground-level equipment. The increased static head, structural loading, and foundation requirements all required careful engineering to ensure reliable long-term performance.
Solution
Supporting a pool and spa with a significant elevation change required careful foundation and structural design to accommodate the elevated vessels and the substantial loads they imposed. Close coordination with the residence ensured the pool structure integrated properly with the building while maintaining the architectural vision for the project.
The hydraulic system was designed specifically for the large elevation difference between the elevated vessels and the ground-level equipment, requiring careful pump selection, pipe sizing, and system balancing to maintain reliable circulation and consistent knife-edge and vanishing-edge performance.
The result is a dramatic architectural watershape that conceals a highly engineered structural and hydraulic system beneath its clean, minimalist appearance.
