Challenge
This iconic Mykonos-style residence is widely recognized for its strong Mediterranean character and highly integrated pool and outdoor environment. Over time, however, the existing pool configuration became impractical for modern use. Water dominated the immediate exterior of the home, leaving limited deck space, constrained circulation, and few areas for seating, lounging, or gathering.
While visually striking, the layout prioritized immersion over usability. Moving between the house and the pool was restrictive, and the lack of defined deck zones made the outdoor space difficult to use for day-to-day living or entertaining. The client’s goal was to modernize the experience while preserving the unmistakable Mykonos identity of the property.
Solution
The renovation focused on rebalancing water and deck space to improve circulation and usability without losing the character that defines the home. The deck was extended outward from the house in areas previously occupied by water, creating a functional transition zone that allows occupants to step out, move comfortably around the pool, and engage with the space rather than immediately entering the water.
A sun shelf was introduced at the upper pool level, furnished with three daybeds inspired by contemporary Mykonos resorts. This addition created a dedicated lounging zone that feels intentional, social, and visually aligned with modern Mediterranean pool design. The revised layout establishes clear movement paths, usable deck areas, and defined places to sit, relax, and gather.
Together, these changes transform the pool from an over-integrated feature into a balanced outdoor environment. The result maintains the iconic Mykonos aesthetic while delivering a more functional, modern pool and deck experience suited to how the space is used today.
